    TEA Alleged Relationship Investigations Increased 27 Percent

    Investigations by the Texas Education Agency into alleged student-teacher relationships have jumped by 27 percent during the last three school years. This school year alone, agency investigators opened 74 new cases between Sept. 1 of last year and Feb. 28 of 2015. In January, one former federal education official said one problem is teachers’ use of social media to develop improper relationships with students out of sight of parents and principals. Child Protective Services continues their investigation into a Harlingen High School teacher accused of having an improper relationship with a 17-year-old student.
