    Teachers may be forced to pass test to gain qualification

    ASPIRING teachers may have to pass a national test before graduating, amid concern that too many lack basic skills. The proposed assessment would go beyond literacy and numeracy to cover subject knowledge and practical skills. The capacity to assess student performance and plan a lesson would also be examined. The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership, a federally funded body charged with maintaining teaching standards, has proposed the idea to the Federal Government’s teacher education review.
