    TEA investigations into improper student-teacher relationships jumped 36 percent last year

    Investigations into improper teacher-student relationships jumped 36 percent in the 2017 fiscal year, records obtained by mySA.com show. The Texas Education Agency opened 302 investigations into improper relationships in FY2017. It was at least the seventh year in a row that number has increased. Improper relationships, which includes any sexual contact between a teacher and student, have plagued Texas school districts for years, with 1,503 investigations opened since the 2010 fiscal year. A slew of bills were filed to curb the issue during the 85th Legislative Session and Gov. Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 7 in May. The new law, ...
