The Texas Education Agency opened 302 investigations into improper relationships in FY2017. It was at least the seventh year in a row that number has increased. Improper relationships, which includes any sexual contact between a teacher and student, have plagued Texas school districts for years, with 1,503 investigations opened since the 2010 fiscal year.
