Authorities conducting a welfare check on Steve Allen after he failed to show up to school Wednesday morning, found the 57-year-old Eastern Middle School music teacher dead inside his Cos Cob home.

Speer, whose son continues to play the violin in college, added, "How welcoming he was to all students who wanted to play in the orchestra. It didn’t matter whether you were first chair or last chair, he always so encouraging to the students ... he pushed kids to perform to the best of their ability."

Greenwich police say they’re partnering with the FBI to investigate the extent to which a recently deceased and popular public school music teacher was connected to apparent child pornography discovered in his residence. According to a press release issued by Police Chief James Heavey, a Greenwich detective searching the residence of Steve Allen discovered “numerous photographs in a storage bin that appeared to have been printed from a computer printer.” “These photos were sexually explicit in nature, and many appeared to be child pornography,” Heavey’s statement continued.

The body of Steven Allen, 57, was found in his apartment at 84 Valley Road in Cos Cob on the morning of Nov. 9 after coworkers called police when he did not show up to work. Interim Superintendent Roger Lulow said a review of [Steve] Allen's personnel file and background check, including finger printing, before his hire revealed "no reports, accusations, or suspicions of inappropriate behavior nor any criminal record." He said the district was relieved no evidence was found that local individuals were victims of inappropriate or illegal acts on Allen's part.
