    Sexual exploitation may harm millions of students

    Nine area educators have been charged with sexual exploitation of a student in the past seven years. They had varying outcomes. One won a successful appeal of his case, claiming he couldn’t be charged with the statute governing teachers because he was on contract rather than a formal employee. Two cases remain open. The others pleaded guilty or reached plea bargains. If you’re an educator, having a sexual relationship with a student is expressly forbidden by Iowa law.
