Police also said they discovered photos showing the teacher and student kissing. The allegations came to light after a former student at Pasadena Memorial High School spotted Tate and the teen having dinner at an Olive Garden restaurant on December 16, according to court records. According to the complaint, the former student thought the two may have been on a date because Tate and the teen girl were seen feeding each other and later walking arm in arm in the parking lot. The witness sent photos of the alleged date to the school’s assistant principal. The assistant principal, according to court documents, had previously warned Tate about inappropriate teacher-student relationships after she saw the girl getting out of Tate's car at a fast food restaurant on October 7. ...Court records show the assistant principal also told police he had witnessed Tate buying a $200 Pandora bracelet while on a school trip October 26. District officials said only a handful of staff, and no students were on that school trip. When asked about the purchase at the time, Tate told the assistant principal the bracelet was a gift for his mother. But Harris County prosecutors said when the teen was questioned by police about the relationship, she was wearing a Pandora bracelet and admitted it was a gift from Tate. The girl told police Tate had also bought her clothing and a purse. She said the two were involved in a romantic relationship but denied there was any sexual contact.A spokesperson for Pasadena ISD said the teen girl was a student in Tate's history class last school year.

Both of these are second degree felonies. The alleged incidents did not happen at the school. Just before the winter break, Pasadena ISD received a report of a suspected inappropriate relationship between a Memorial High School teacher, Paul Tate, and a 16-year old student. Immediately upon hearing the allegations, Pasadena ISD placed the teacher on administrative leave while law enforcement personnel investigated.Our primary concern is always the welfare of our students. Therefore, the district removed the teacher from the educational environment and has arranged for a smooth transition in continuation of teaching and learning in a secure environment.Any time an educator is accused of an improper relationship, it’s important to make sure that the situation is reviewed thoroughly. The educator-student relationship is an important one. Anytime an educator breaks the rules concerning that relationship, it makes it more difficult for all teachers who care about kids and want to do what is right for them. We will continue to work together to provide a safe and appropriate environment where children can learn.

A witness reported seeing the pair at an Olive Garden location earlier this month on what appeared to be a date. Tate and the student seemed open about the relationship, walking arm in arm into the restaurant, according to court documents. Officials said Tate previously had been warned by an assistant principal at the school to stay away from the student after seeing them together in October at a McDonald's. Records state that the assistant principal saw Tate purchase a $200 Pandora bracelet for the student, though Tate said he was purchasing it for his mother ... PISD police officials obtained the phone records of both Tate and the student and discovered that a number of text messages, photos and phone calls between the two, which indicated that there had been sexual contact and intercourse involved in their relationship. According to court documents, the student also sent Tate photos of herself in lingerie.

That student reported the two were feeding each other and walking arm in arm in the parking lot. Police say the former student took photos of the two and reported it to the school's assistant principal. Pasadena Memorial's principal then contacted police. According to police, the assistant principal told them he had warned Tate to stay away from the student after seeing the pair at a McDonald's back in October. He also says he saw Tate buy a $200 Pandora bracelet while out on a field trip, though Tate said it was for his mother. When police interviewed the student with whom Tate allegedly had a relationship, they reported she was wearing a Pandora bracelet that she said was one of the items Tate bought for her. Police say she admitted being in a romantic relationship with Tate, but that there was nothing sexual going on. According to court documents, police say Tate denied having a sexual relationship with the student, but did say he had taken her out and given her gifts.
