Nicola Webster, 26, who taught at The Abbey School in Faversham, Kent, is accused of engaging in the relationship between February 2008 and spring 2009. A PE teacher who is accused of having a lesbian relationship with a pupil denied that she was gay or that any affair had taken place. Nicola Webster, 26, claimed that the allegations against her had been fabricated by Rachel Skelcher, head of PE at the Abbey School in Faversham, Kent, so that she could secure a job for one of her friends. Miss Webster said Mrs Skelcher was ‘intent on destroying my career’ and had also been responsible for an anonymous letter which prompted the investigation into her conduct.

During the first day of the two-day hearing into unacceptable professional conduct, the panel heard that Miss Webster and the girl, referred to only as ‘Pupil A’ throughout the hearing, had started a relationship during a school ski-trip in February 2008. It is alleged that Miss Webster was later seen in public kissing the Year 12 pupil and walking hand-in-hand with her by another member of staff. She is also accused of sharing her one-bedroomed flat with the girl, and booking a week’s holiday in Palma for the two of them during the Valentine’s Day break in 2009.

Kent News (9 Aug 2011): PE teacher suspended for alleged lesbian affair with pupil

Kent News said:

The panel in the case said it was satisfied Ms Webster had been involved in an “inappropriate” relationship with a Year 12 student, following evidence the pair had been photographed together and spotted kissing and holding hands. They also accepted evidence that the couple had contacted each other on Facebook and been spotted visiting a pub together the day before the pupil left the school in March, 2008. However, further accusations Ms Webster had booked a holiday to Palma for her and the pupil, and that they had also shared a one-bedroom flat, could not be proved.

Favesham Times (12 Aug 2011): Ex-PE teacher suspended over 'lesbian affair'

Favesham Times said:

Of the ten allegations against her, the committee found four to be proven on the balance of probabilities, and ruled that her behaviour constituted "unacceptable professional conduct, which falls short of the standard expected of a registered teacher". Webster was found to have breached "the standards of propriety and trust expected of the profession" after she failed to "establish and maintain appropriate boundaries". The case was referred to the General Teaching Council of England, which called various witnesses to give evidence in June.
