    N.J. may finally be addressing its teacher sexual misconduct problem

    State lawmakers on Tuesday will hold a hearing on sexual misconduct in schools and consider a proposal for stricter background checks to flag teachers accused of inappropriate behavior with students at their previous schools. The hearing comes after an NJ Advance Media investigation published in December exposed how dangerous flaws in the system for vetting school employees allowed teachers accused of sexual misconduct with students to easily move from job to job. One of the teachers was convicted of sexually assaulting six students in three different schools districts. Another teacher is charged with sexually abusing a teenager in the 1990s. ...
