OC Teachers Arrested After Alleged Sex With High School Students on Camping Trip

Melody Lippert, 38, and Michelle Ghirelli, 30, were accused of meeting up with a group of students from the West Covina high school at San Clemente State Beach last November, a news release from the Sheriff’s Department said.


During the beach trip, Lippert allegedly provided alcohol to the students before having some sort of sexual relationship with one of them, according to the release.


Several weeks later, Lippert planned an overnight camping trip at the same beach involving Ghirelli and several of the students who attended the previous one, the release stated.


Both teachers allegedly had sexual relations with two students on the trip, which was not a school or district-sponsored event, authorities said.​

Teachers arrested in underage-sex case

Michelle Louise Ghirelli, 30, is suspected of having sex with the student in December during an overnight camping trip to the beach. Ghirelli was in an adminstrative role at the Covina-Valley Unified School District, but had worked before at South Hills High School, according to district spokeswoman Michelle Van Der Linden. She has been with the district for five years.


The trip was organized by another teacher, Melody Suzanne Lippert, 38, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. Lippert taught English at South Hills High School and has been with the district for 15 years.

Lippert had met up with the same group of male students during a beach outing in November, when the authorities allege she gave the students alcohol, the sheriff’s department said. During both trips to the San Clemente beach, Lippert is suspected of having had sex with a student who was 18 years old, sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Jeff Hallock said.​
