    Mandated reporting laws on child abuse 'not just words on paper'

    You better believe the news release issued Oct. 26 by East Aurora School District 131 caused a whole lot of people to sit up and take notice. Matt Willigman, the popular principal of O’Donnell Elementary School, had just been charged with failing to contact a state agency to investigate an allegation of abuse involving one of his students. Failure to report is a misdemeanor, which I suppose is good news in this case. The bad news? If Willigman is found guilty, he could face jail time and his career as an educator is in big jeopardy.
