    Sheriff's Office Chief Investigator Glenn Grannan said that Leslie Danielle DeWitt, 31, was arrested without incident Friday morning at her home in Perkinston. She was charged with three counts of sexual battery while being in a position of trust or authority. The victim was 16 years-old took place, according to a statement from the sheriff's office ... The charges stem from incidents which allegedly occurred when DeWitt was employed at Hancock High and the victim was a student at the school, officials said. Sheriff Ricky Adam said Friday that his office was made aware of the allegations earlier this year and conducted a full investigation into the matter. "The girl was having difficulty in dealing with things, and in talking with her parents, the allegations came to light," Sheriff Ricky Adam said Friday.

    Sheriff Ricky Adam announced today that LESLIE DANIELLE DEWITT, 31 years of age, was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID), Hancock County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO). DEWITT is suspected of violations of Mississippi Code regarding (3) counts of Sexual Battery where she was in a position of trust or authority over the child victim who was a sixteen (16) year old female. These suspected violations occurring in Hancock County.

    Sheriff Ricky Adam announced the arrest of 31-year-old Leslie Danielle DeWitt in news release Friday. Adam says the alleged victim is a 16-year-old girl. The release says DeWitt had been a teacher and coach at various schools on the Gulf Coast ... The sexual activity allegedly happened in Hancock County.

    Leslie Danielle DeWitt was booked with three counts for actions authorities believe happened when she was a position of trust of a victim who was 16 at the time. DeWitt is a former educator and coach at various schools along the Gulf Coast, but was arrested in Hancock Co., because that’s where the actions took place.

    A longtime public school coach [Leslie Danielle Dewitt] accused of sexual contact with a student at Hancock High has been arrested on a similar allegation involving a student while she coached at Pearl River Central High, authorities said ... Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said Dewitt was booked on a charge of touching of a child under the age of 18 for lustful purposes. The arrest came after a girl's mother signed a complaint against Dewitt, alleging the incident occurred in May 2012, Tucker said. The complaint does not say it occurred on campus.

    WLOX: Former high school coach charged with touching a student (June 6 2013)

    Pearl River County authorities have charged Leslie Danielle DeWitt with touching a student for lustful purposes. Sheriff David Allison told WLOX News this most recent charge stems from an incident that happened off-campus in May 2012. Allison said at that time, DeWitt worked as a coach at Pearl River Central High School.

    Teacher Trial Begins Today Hancock County

    Leslie Danielle Dewitt is charged with two counts of sexual battery while in a position of trust and three counts of unlawful touching of a child for lustful purposes. She’s accused of having had a sexual relationship with one of her female players when she was an assistant basketball coach at Hancock High between Dec. 1, 2009 and July 30, 2010. News 25 has a reporter in court and will have details on the first day of the trial tonight at 5:30.

    Circuit Judge Larry Bourgeois had in 2016 sentenced DeWitt to 15 years in prison for each count of touching a child for lustful purposes, to be served consecutively. It is the maximum sentence allowed by law.
    DeWitt is not eligible for early release or parole and must serve every day of the sentence. Upon release, she will be required to register as a sex offender, as detailed in previous Sun Herald reports. DeWitt was acquitted on two counts of sexual battery.
