A relationship between a drama teacher from Wales and one of her pupils was exposed when the pair attended a sexual health clinic together, a court has heard. Kelly Burgess appeared before magistrates and admitted a series of sexual offences against a teenage boy ... Initially Burgess denied any relationship between the pair and claimed she had taken the boy for a sexual health check-up after he had expressed concerns to her that he may have contracted an infection from someone else. Police investigations later revealed data which had been deleted from her mobile phone showing "explicit messages and exchanges" between the pair, said Mr Collins. "It was quite clear what was going on as she has now admitted," he added.​

The blonde drama teacher then confirmed they had been in a relationship for seven months, stating she did not know it was illegal as he had reached the age of consent.​

Kelly Ann-Marie Burgess pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual activity with the boy, who was aged 16 and 17 at the time. The 26-year-old, of Newport, South Wales, was caught after the teenager told a nurse about the affair, North Somerset magistrates’ court heard. She claimed she was ‘assisting’ the boy by taking him to get ‘checked out’ after sexual contact with a girl his age.​

Attractive Kelly Burgess, 26, was caught out after her 16-year-old lover let slip about their relationship to a practice nurse while in a one-on-one consultation. When the nurse revealed she now had a protocol to follow the panicked student later returned with Burgess, who gave a false name and age.​

North Somerset Magistrates Court heard the relationship between Kelly Burgess, of Newport, and her student was discovered just months after it began in January 2013 by a practice nurse when they went to a sexual health clinic together. After the boy let slip of his romance, the nurse revealed she was required to follow protocol and report it. The student later returned with Burgess, who gave a false name and age but police followed up on the revelation and arrested her. In court, Burgess admitted four charges of adult abuse of position of trust - sexual activity with a boy aged 13 to 17 between January 1 and August 28 last year.​
