    KSEE 24: Second Arrest for South Valley Teacher Accused of Child Sex Crimes (Sept 26 2011)

    39 year old Juan Carlos Tafolla has been in and out of jail twice since Thursday. He was initially arrested on suspicion of possession of child pornography. The next day, he bailed out of jail and was arrested again. Tulare Police say the investigation revealed Tafolla had sex with a minor. Sgt. Darron Altermatt said, "It started with one thing and within a day there's another charge...there's no telling where these things can go."

    A South Valley teacher appeared in court on charges - he had sex with a student. Juan Carlos Tafolla is facing four felonies. Juan Carlos Tafolla was surrounded by family members as he entered a Visalia courtroom on Thursday morning ... The 39-year-old was first arrested in September after investigators discovered material they say showed a minor involved in a sexual act. He wasn't formally charged with any crimes until February. Now the former Mission Oak High School teacher faces four felony charges for having sex with a minor.

    ABC Local KFSN: Ex-Tulare teacher gets 150 days in jail for sex with student

    Juan Tafolla could have received up to five years in prison but Tulare County Superior Court Judge Gary Paden went for much less. Court Judge Gary Paden said, "In this matter I am placing the defendant in five years formal probation." The judge also sentenced Tafolla to 150 days in the county jail, though he could serve some of that time on electronic monitoring.

    Juan Carlos Tafolla, 40, who used to teach at Mission Oak, was sentenced to serve five months in prison, complete five years of probation and pay a $500 fine. He’ll have to register as a sex offender for the length of his probationary period.
