Police were called to investigate a burglary alarm at an office park near Adams Avenue and Date Street shortly before 9 p.m., the release said. There was no sign of a break-in at the 41771 Corporate Center Court business where the alarm went off, but officers noticed a van in the parking lot, Sgt. Phil Gomez said. Pinckard got out of the van as officers approached. Asked if there was anyone else in the van, Pinckard said he was alone, Gomez said. But when officers shined a light inside they saw the 17-year-old hiding in the back, he said.

Officers spotted a van parked at the location and questioned the driver, identified as Pinckard. Moments later, they discovered a 17-year-old girl "hiding in the rear of the van," Gomez said. "Investigation revealed Pinckard and the juvenile ... have been involved in an ongoing sexual relationship for over one year," the sergeant alleged. "The juvenile was determined to be a former student of suspect Pinckard at Day Middle School."

A Murrieta man accused of carrying on a long-term sexual relationship with a former student has resigned from his teaching position ... Pinckard since turned in his resignation to the Temecula Valley Unified School District. According to district spokesperson Melanie Norton. Pinckard was placed on paid administrative leave following his arrest. His resignation was expected to be accepted by the school board at Tuesday's meeting, and was effective as of Dec. 31.
