    School background checks aim to keep kids safe

    When you send your kids to school you expect them to be safe, but in the last week two area school employees faced serious charges involving inappropriate behavior with children. According to the Department of Justice, William Bell, a former information and technology employee of Monticello Community Schools, was arrested and indicted on federal child pornography charges. In Coles County, 35-year-old Hilary Rawlings, was charged with criminal sexual assault of a minor. According to Mattoon Community Schools Superintendent Larry Lillard, Rawlings was hired by the district as a substitute nurse in January 2017, but she was never actually called in ...
