Portland Protester Kneeled on By Federal Agents Speaks Out After 18-Hour Ordeal

Noelle Mandolfo doesn't know why federal agents in Portland suddenly tackled her, with one seen kneeling on her back as they pinned her to the ground. Videos widely shared on social media show the petite 30-year-old yoga teacher yelling "I can't breathe!" and repeatedly asking the officers "Why?" as they pinned her to the ground outside the Mark O. Hatfield United States Courthouse in the early hours of Monday morning. Now, Mandolfo has told Newsweek that her arrest was just the start of a grim 18-hour ordeal, recalling how she was "basically hog-tied" in a cell for hours, denied medical ...

Federal court to review ‘protest bans’ in Portland arrests

U.S. court officials in Oregon are reviewing bans on future protesting that were placed on some people arrested during protests in Portland after some raised concerns that the prohibitions violated the First Amendment. “We’re reviewing every case again right now and looking at the wording of some of the conditions,” Brian Crist, chief pretrial services officer for the U.S. District Court in Portland, said Wednesday. “A lot of this I think will be resolved.” Crist said he couldn’t comment on individual cases, but he noted the court looks at each defendant individually and doesn’t have “blanket conditions” that are placed ...

A Philly man who warned not to share protest photos online was charged with trashing cop cars based on pics posted to his Instagram

As he posted a collection of images he shot during the protests that gripped Philadelphia after the police killing of George Floyd, Sammy Rivera beseeched his Instagram followers to be careful of what they shared online. “Photos and video footage of the protests were used to pick out protesters who were then identified and tracked down via their online/social media presence,” he wrote in the caption to his June 26 post that warned just “how easy it could potentially be for others to be tracked down and arrested or worse.” Five weeks later, Rivera himself was placed in handcuffs, accused ...

Huge Portland protest crowds, standoff with feds go on

Thousands of protesters gathered outside the federal courthouse in Portland, Oregon, into the early hours Saturday, shooting fireworks at the building as plumes of tear gas dispensed by U.S. agents, lingered above. The demonstration went until federal agents entered the crowd around 2:30 a.m. and marched in a line down the street, clearing remaining protesters with tear gas at close range. They also extinguished a large fire in the street outside the courthouse. Portland has been roiled by nightly protests for two months following the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Black Lives Matter protesters gather to testify at city's budget hearing

An organized and boisterous stream of people repeatedly called on the Lincoln City Council on Monday to halt Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird’s budget and defund the police. Dozens of young, mostly white people, who chanted Black Lives Matter while concluding their remarks, said the proposed budget flies in the face of repeated calls this summer to divert city dollars from the Lincoln Police Department to social services. “If the budget passes as is, that will show you aren’t listening,” a man who identified himself only as Harrison said. At a hearing that stretched late into Monday night, several people who ...
