An Abilene Independent School District teacher who is accused by a male student of having a sexual relationship with him has resigned from her job as a coach and English teacher. The woman's attorney said Friday that Abilene police have searched and photographed the interior of her home ... At this point, the only ongoing investigation is being done by the Abilene Police Department ... The information regarding the allegations initially came to light through a conversation the student had with a former teacher at his high school, the student's mother said. The former teacher had been approached by the accused teacher and was told not to believe anything he might hear about a relationship with the student. That spurred him to question the student, she said. "That was someone my son really trusted," the student's mother said. "He didn't want to get anyone in trouble, but he definitely wasn't going to lie about it."

Proctor was arrested Monday for allegedly having an improper relationship with a student, which is a second degree felony. This means Proctor could serve prison time if convicted.

Elizabeth Proctor, the former Cooper High School teacher and coach accused of having an improper relationship with a 15-year-old male student, was sentenced to seven years probation Friday. Proctor will be on probation for seven years and must surrender her teaching license. By law, Proctor will not have to register as a sex offender. Though sentenced under the deferred adjudication rule, her record will not be cleared at the end of seven years.

A lawsuit filed against the Abilene Independent School District and former teacher Elizabeth Proctor alleges some school employees did not report actions that led to the teacher being sentenced in July in connection with having improper relations with a 15-year-old student ... "Inappropriate violations of the student-teacher boundaries were witnessed firsthand by other school district employees who failed to report the interactions," the lawsuit claims. It says personnel were not "appropriately trained to recognize and report the signs of teacher misconduct." ... Donald Scott Mackenzie, attorney for the plaintiff, said the lawsuit was filed because the school district did not provide counseling for the student and filed a misdemeanor criminal trespass charge against him ...
