    Police clash with teachers in southern Mexico


    Federal Police officers clashed with members of Local 22 of the CNTE teachers union who were protesting the arrest of a labor leader at the Oaxaca State Public Education Institute, or IEEPO, headquarters in southern Mexico. Officers used tear gas on Saturday night to clear the protesting teachers, who had taken to the streets following the arrest of Local 22 secretary Francisco Villalobos, from the area around the IEEPO. The teachers pulled back and regrouped at the Zocalo, the main plaza, in Oaxaca city, the state capital, where they have been camped out since declaring a strike on May 15. ...

    Teachers union bosses arrested, accused of money laundering and robbery

    Members of the dissident teachers’ union CNTE are going on the warpath in response to the weekend arrest of two leaders of the Oaxaca local Section 22.
