A former Monmouth teacher again faces an accusation he possessed sexually explicit material of minors. Christopher B. Brown, 55, of Monmouth, who retired after his earlier arrest in June, was arrested again Tuesday night. A grand jury in Kennebec County returned an indictment against him Oct. 5. The indictment was sealed until his arrest ... When Brown was first arrested in June, police claimed Brown had allegedly loaded two school laptops with photographs depicting nude children in sexually explicit positions. Police had been called by an official of Monmouth Middle School, where Brown had been teaching for a dozen years, after students reported seeing odd photos focusing on girls’ heads that appeared to be taken of girls on the playground. Later, Maine State Police Sgt. Glenn Lang said Brown took police to a spot in the woods behind his home where he had two school-issued laptops hidden in waterproof bags. “That's where we found sexually explicit material,” Lang said.

Bangor Daily News (23 Oct 2011): Former teacher who had child porn charges dropped faces charges again

Brown was arrested in June for the same thing, but the charges later were dropped. Police reportedly found 45 pornographic images on Brown’s computer. Brown also allegedly admitted to police that he superimposed pictures of Monmouth Middle School students’ heads onto pictures of other children, who were clothed in bathing suits and skirts. But those pictures were not part of the criminal charges at the time because the children in the pictures were clothed. The charges at that time, police said, stemmed from about 45 other sexually explicit images of children that were found on laptops hidden in a waterproof container in Brown’s yard.

He was released on $3,000 bail and is due in court next month. His lawyer, who previously said there was no criminal conduct by his client, says Brown plans to plead not guilty. Lang said state police Detective David Armstrong, the lead investigator in the case, talked to Brown and asked to look at the laptop computer issued to him this year by the school district. The staff told Armstrong that Brown claimed someone had stolen the laptop the school had issued him last year. "We said we'd like to look at the current one assigned to him and he said, 'Oh, I didn't bring it to school with me,'" Lang said. "But he admitted he was the one taking the pictures and morphing (the heads) on other bodies. That didn't rise to the level of child pornography. But it was pretty strange behavior." Brown finally admitted that he had both laptops at his house, Lang said. "He takes us to his house and, out behind it in the woods, were the two laptops hidden in waterproof bags," Lang said. "That's where we found sexually explicit material." Lang said it doesn't appear that any of the children from the middle school were in the photographs.
