School Board Addresses Bullying Following Another Assault At Moreno Valley School

It has been one month since 13-year-old Diego Stolz died from injuries sustained after being punched at Landmark Middle School in Moreno Valley — and only one day since the school’s most recent alleged assault. The Moreno Valley Unified School District Board held a meeting Tuesday night where parents and students addressed the members, telling them stories of bullying they have faced on campus. “Where was y’all when I needed you,” one student said through tears. “I needed your help.” The teenage students were painfully honest with the school board members about the state of bullying across their campuses — ...

Moreno Valley fight: 2 girls apprehended after another assault on middle school student, just weeks after fatal attack

Authorities are investigating another assault involving students at a Moreno Valley middle school in the wake of a series of violent on-campus incidences in the past month, including one that turned fatal. Two girls were apprehended Monday for allegedly assaulting a fellow student during lunch at Landmark Middle School. A 13-year-old complained to an administrator that he was being bullied at his Southern California middle school days before the assault that killed him, the boy’s family said. Juana and Felipe Salcedo, the aunt and uncle of Diego Stolz who raised the boy since his parents died, filed a legal claim against the Moreno Valley Unified School District, the Los Angeles Times reports Tuesday. The claim, which lists damages of $100 million, said Stolz and an adult cousin met with a Landmark Middle School assistant principal in September after he was targeted by bullies and punched at the school 65 ...

Moreno Valley superintendent promises changes after Diego’s death

When Landmark Middle School eighth grader Diego Stolz was fatally assaulted by two students in September, Moreno Valley Superintendent Martinrex Kedziora knew the school district had work to do. “We have to be more thoughtful, more responsive, more empathetic,” Kedziora said Monday, Jan. 27, in his first major interview since then. “When you meet with a parent and they say ‘I don’t want my kid to be the next Diego,’ you can say ‘I agree,’ but our actions speak louder than our words.” And, he said, the district has been acting. The Moreno Valley Unified School District began evaluating its ...

One year after fatal assault of Diego Stolz, here’s what’s changed

One year after the fatal assault on Diego Stolz, the criminal case against the Moreno Valley boy’s assailants, a lawsuit by his family and school district changes to prevent similar incidents continue. On Monday, Sept. 16, 2019, Stolz, 13, was an eighth-grader at Landmark Middle School. The Friday before, Stolz’s family said he and an adult cousin went to Assistant Principal Kamilah O’Connor to report a bullying incident the day before, which had been reported by a teacher and allegedly captured on video. According to Stolz’s family, O’Connor told him the two boys’ schedules would be changed so they wouldn’t ...
