A former teacher's aide at a Gulfport school has been charged with having a seven-month sexual relationship with a 16-year-old disabled male student, police said. When police went to the Clearwater apartment of Artia Patrice Davis, 30, they found the victim in her bed, said Elizabeth Watts, spokeswoman for the Clearwater Police Department. Davis met the victim while working at Hamilton Disston School, 5125 11th Ave. South, Watts said.

A former teacher's aide is out on bond after she was arrested for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student who is disabled. Artia Davis, 30, is charged with having sex with a minor from November 2011 through May of this year ... Davis was a teacher's aide at Hamilton Disston School in Gulfport. She met the alleged victim at the school, police said. Authorities began investigating Davis after hearing that she was having a physical relationship with the student. Davis resigned in March while under investigation by Pinellas County Schools. Police went to Davis' apartment on Highland Avenue in Clearwater on Monday. Officers reported finding the 16-year-old boy lying in Davis' bed.

"But we were able to sort through all of that and confirm that there had been a sexual relationship going on for at least seven months." ...However, on Monday, a tip from a student changed that and led to Davis's arrest on sex charges.

Seven months ago, Artia Patrice Davis, 30, of Clearwater, became involved with the student while she was working as a teacher's aide at Hamilton Disston School, police said. The Pinellas County School District and Pinellas sheriff's child welfare investigators began checking out Davis' relationship with the student after getting a tip about it Monday. Davis had already resigned March 5 while under investigation by the school district's Office of Professional Standards on another matter, school officials said.
