Attorney requests delay in Hardin trial

Defense attorneys want to delay a rape suspect’s trial to gather more information in the 1997 attack of a Rogers school teacher. Grant Hardin, 49, a former Gateway police chief, has pleaded not guilty to three counts of rape. He was arrested in February in connection with the rape of the teacher at Tillery Elementary School. Hardin’s jury trial is scheduled to begin Dec. 11, and his attorneys filed a motion earlier this week requesting the delay. Ex-lawman admits '97 rape of teacher

A man who served as a former police chief and constable in Northwest Arkansas admitted Thursday to raping a Rogers schoolteacher 21 years ago. Grant Hardin, 50, pleaded guilty to two counts of rape. His jury trial was scheduled to begin Monday, but Hardin avoided two possible life sentences by pleading guilty. Benton County Circuit Judge Robin Green sentenced Hardin to 25 years on each of the counts, which means he received a 50-year sentence. Hardin pleaded guilty to murder in 2017 and received a 30-year sentence. The rape sentence will run concurrently with the murder sentence, which means Hardin ...

She was married to a local police officer and attended night classes at the University of Arkansas in the hope of becoming an attorney one day. On a Sunday morning in November 1997, Harrison was in the school preparing her lesson plans. She thought she was alone. However, as ...
